At Nephrology West, we provide comprehensive care for a wide range of kidney and related conditions.
Dr Sri has particular expertise in autoimmune kidney diseases and conservative (non-dialysis) management pathways.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

CKD refers to gradual loss of kidney function over months to years. It is staged from 1 (mild) to 5 (kidney failure). Early detection and management can significantly slow progression. We focus on blood pressure control, medication optimisation, dietary guidance, and cardiovascular risk reduction.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)

AKI is sudden kidney damage occurring over hours to days, often requiring urgent assessment. Causes include severe infections, medication effects, dehydration, and urinary tract obstruction. Many patients recover kidney function with appropriate treatment, though some may develop chronic kidney disease.

Glomerulonephritis

This group of conditions involves inflammation of the kidney's filtering units (glomeruli). Presentations include blood or protein in urine, swelling, and elevated blood pressure. Diagnosis often requires kidney biopsy, and treatment may include immunosuppressive medications.

Autoimmune Kidney Disease

Dr Sri has subspecialty fellowship training in autoimmune kidney conditions, including:

  • Lupus nephritis — kidney involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

  • ANCA-associated vasculitis — including granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA)

  • IgA nephropathy — the most common glomerulonephritis worldwide

  • Membranous nephropathy

  • Anti-GBM disease (Goodpasture's syndrome)

Diabetic Kidney Disease

Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure in Australia. We work with patients and their GPs to optimise glucose control, blood pressure, and use kidney-protective medications (including SGLT2 inhibitors and finerenone where appropriate) to slow disease progression.

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Poorly controlled hypertension damages kidneys, and kidney disease can cause or worsen hypertension — creating a harmful cycle. We assess for secondary causes of hypertension and optimise medication regimens, particularly for resistant hypertension requiring multiple agents.

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PCKD)

PKD is an inherited condition causing multiple cysts to develop in the kidneys. Management focuses on blood pressure control, hydration, and monitoring for complications. Tolvaptan may be considered in selected patients to slow cyst growth and preserve kidney function.

Electrolyte Disorders

The kidneys regulate sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphate levels. Abnormalities in these electrolytes can cause symptoms ranging from muscle cramps to cardiac arrhythmias. We investigate underlying causes and provide targeted treatment.

Conservative (Non-Dialysis) Care

For patients with advanced kidney disease who choose not to pursue dialysis, or for whom dialysis may not be appropriate, we offer comprehensive conservative management. This focuses on symptom control, quality of life, and coordinated care with palliative services when needed. This is a shared decision-making process tailored to individual circumstances and values.
